Frequently Asked Questions – Konto Acoustic Panels

Konto Acoustic Panels

What sizes are available?

The maximum panel size is 2400 × 1200 mm. We cut panels to any size and almost any shape according to project requirements.

What thicknesses are available?

Konto acoustic panels are available in 20, 30, 40 and 50 mm thicknesses. Thickness affects sound absorption, and we provide recommendations based on the space.

Can Konto panels be glued directly to ceiling battens?

Yes.

Recommendation:

  • maximum batten spacing: 400 mm
  • fix the panel both in the centre and along the edges

Butt joint or open joint?

An open joint (5–10 mm) usually provides the cleanest and most finished result.

Does Konto have a smell?

Konto is an M1‑classified building material. It does not produce dust or odour after installation.

Cut edges should be:

  • retouched with paint, or
  • sealed with a hot iron

How are lights handled?

Most recessed lights today use LED technology, which produces very little heat. Lightweight LED fixtures can usually be mounted directly onto Konto panels.

In renovation projects, relocating a light onto the Konto surface depends on:

  • available slack in the wiring
  • the fixture’s mounting method
  • the fixture’s weight

Note: acoustic installers are not electricians, so electrical work must be budgeted separately.

How much Konto is needed?

The requirement depends on the size, shape and hard surfaces of the space. The best estimate comes from photos of the room or a site visit.

A common acoustic guideline is that approximately 50% of the floor area corresponds to the amount of absorbing material needed on walls and/or ceilings.

Can Konto be used in humid spaces?

Yes. Konto is naturally acidic, breathable and mould‑resistant, making it suitable for humid spaces as long as there is no direct exposure to water splashes.

Is Konto flammable?

No. Konto acoustic panels have a B‑class fire rating, meaning they are fire‑safe and suitable for public buildings and other projects with specific fire‑safety requirements.

Colours

What colours can be used?

Konto is painted in the selected shade. A pure bright white is not used, as a thick paint layer would reduce acoustic performance. Konto’s white is therefore a naturally light grey.

Common colour charts:

  • Tikkurila Symphony
  • RAL
  • Teknos
  • NCS S

Konto slightly softens the tone, so the lightest colours should be chosen one step darker.
Colour samples can be provided when needed.

Can Konto acoustic panels be painted by the customer?

Self‑painting is not recommended. We use our own spray‑painting technique to ensure the panels remain porous and retain their acoustic properties.

Painting the panels yourself may clog the surface, reducing sound absorption.

Installation

How are Konto panels installed, and can they be cut?

For installation we recommend Fintex acoustic adhesive, which professional installers find highly effective.

Cutting methods:

  • utility knife
  • round holes: hole saw (high RPM + reverse gear)

What installation methods are available besides adhesive?

Konto can also be installed without adhesive. Options include:

  • double‑sided construction tape – for small and lightweight panels
  • fixing nails – fast and reliable mechanical installation
  • aluminium J‑profile (picture rail) – clean and easily removable solution
  • wire suspension – for hanging acoustic elements
  • chain + hook combination – especially for high spaces and large suspended panels

Printed Images

What size and file formats should images be?

For printed images, the resolution should be at least 150 dpi. For images larger than 1200 × 1200 px, we recommend 300 dpi for a sharp, high‑quality result.

Best file formats for colour accuracy and print quality:

  • PDF
  • JPG

We always check image quality before production to ensure the best possible outcome.
